FGBI “ARRIAH” was founded in 1958 as All-Union Foot-and-Mouth Disease Research Institute (AUFMDRI). For these years a lot of things include the name have changed in the Institute: the number of research laboratories has increased, new branches of scientific research have appeared, the epidemic situation is being monitored and further forecast and abortion of epidemic are being made.
Researchers of Centre participate in treatment-and-prevention events almost in all countries of the world, relate with the leading veterinary centers of Great Britain, France, Poland, Finland, USA, German and the CIS countries closely.
The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has assigned two international statuses to the Institute: “OIE Regional Reference Laboratory for Foot-and-Mouth Disease” (1995) and “OIE Collaborating Centre for Diagnosis and Control of Animal Diseases in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Transcaucasia” (1997).
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has assigned status “Reference centre for Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Central Asia and Western Eurasia” (2013)
Nowadays about 800 highly qualified specialists are working in the Centre including 18 doctors of science and 212 candidates of science. A great role in solving tasks is played by young researchers who are able to perform tests at the level of the latest scientific developments, to hold all relevant information and methods of development of technologies competitive in the market of diagnostic products and vaccines.
