FGBI "ARRIAH" Participated in the Meeting Regarding World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Assigning FMD and BSE Statuses

The meeting chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture M. I. Uvaidov regarding the issue of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) assigning the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) statuses was held at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on January 21, 2021.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation - Director of the Veterinary Department M. V. Novikova, Deputy Director of the Veterinary Department A. A. Mukovnin, Deputy Director of the Department for International Cooperation A.V. Malkhasyan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Export O. A. Mironova. The Rosselkhoznadzor was represented at the meeting by Deputy Head of Directorate for International Cooperation, Veterinary Control of Export/Import and Transportation T. Ye. Gutorov, Deputy Director for Research and Quality of the FGBI "ARRIAH" A. Ye. Metlin and Head of the Information and Analytical Center of the FGBI "ARRIAH" A. K. Karaulov.

The meeting was opened by M. I. Uvaidov. In his speech he focused on importance of obtaining OIE statuses for the development of agricultural product foreign trade. A. K. Karaulov and A. Ye. Metlin spoke about the progress and current state of affairs with respect to Russia's obtaining the OIE FMD and BSE statuses. Answering the questions raised by the participants of the meeting, T. Ye. Gutorov spoke about the problems of Russian exporters due to absense of BSE status. Some countries use this fact to restrict the access of Russian agricultural product exports to their markets.

It should be noted that FGBI "ARRIAH" is the focal point with respect to Russia’s obtaining OIE statuses in the Russian Federation. Thus, the OIE statuses for peste des petits ruminants and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia were successfully obtained in 2020.

Concluding the meeting, it was decided to continue the work that had been started.
