Culture dry virus vaccine against peste des petits ruminats

Description

Vaccine is intended for the prevention of peste des petits ruminants on farms infected with and farms at risk of this disease. The vaccine is a lyophilized mass. In appearance the vaccine is a homogenous dry porous mass, light yellow to light pink colour, completely soluble in 0.9% saline solution within 2-3 minutes without flocculation and sediment.

Indications

The vaccine is intended for the prevention of peste des petits ruminants on farms infected with and at risk of the said disease. Vaccination of clinically diseased and/or weakened animals is not allowed.

Route of administration

Virus vaccine is administered to sheep and goats subcutaneously at a dose of 1.0 cm3 in hairless skin (axillary skin, subcaudal skin). Aseptic procedures should be applied. Add 2 cm3 of sterile saline solution (using syringe) to each 50 doses vaccine bottle, and 4 cm3 of sterile saline solution to 100 doses vaccine bottle aseptically. The vaccine should be shaken well for resuspension. After resuspension add saline solution to virus vaccine: 50 cm3 for 50 doses and 100 cm3for 100 doses. Manual and semiautomatic syringes and needles sterilized by boiling in water for 15-20 min should be used for the vaccination. Disposable syringes can be used. Sterilization of syringes and needles with chemicals is prohibited. The site of injection is treated with 70% ethanol or other disinfecting solution. On infected farms and farms at risk animals of various ages having no clinical signs of PPR should be vaccinated from the age of 3 months, regardless the time of previous vaccination. Young animals under 6 months of age should be vaccinated twice with 14 day interval. Young animals should be revaccinated 6-7 months later, adult animals should be revaccinated 12 months later.

Immunity

The vaccine induces the immune response in sheep and goats to peste des petits ruminants on day 14 after a single vaccine administration that lasts for at least 12 months in adult animals and 6 months in young animals after double vaccination. The vaccine is innocuous and has no therapeutic effect.

Storage conditions

The vaccine should be stored and transported in dry dark place at 2 – 8 °C. Freezing of the vaccine is allowed. The vaccine shelf life is 24 months from the date of its production provided that its storage and transportation conditions are met. Virus vaccine cannot be used after the expiration date.
