«Proceedings of the FGI «Federal Centre for Animal Health» 6th volume

The proceedings of the scientific conference «Animal infectious pathology» devoted to the 50th anniversary of the FGI «ARRIAH» foundation are presented in the collection. The proceedings include the following sections: general questions starting from the history of the FGI «ARRIAH» foundation and development, FMD study results, description of current animal and avian viral and bacterial diseases, biotechnology issues.

This book presents the first attempt to summarize the information on bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) accumulated for 20 years after its first registration. The book covers BSE epizootology and pathogenesis. Modern aspects of prion protein structure and properties are given. Clinical signs of the disease are described; large part of the book covers BSE diagnostic methods. Special attention is paid to the BSE prophylaxis and control methods mainly aimed at the disease spread prevention and ensuring safety of bovine product consumers.
Book serves as a guide for lecturers, students and postgraduates of the departments of biology and veterinary medicine of high educational institutions; veterinarians-virologists, epizootologists and other experts deal with BSE control and measures aimed at the prevention of the disease emergence and spread in our country. This book may be useful for laboratory workers engaged in prion disease diagnosis.
